We are looking to send our dog back to the US and need of some assistance please.
Where can we find a reinforced kennel for a 60 pound American Staffordshire Terrier?
Also we have heard of someone sending a similar breed back to San Diego recently with United.
We would like to know what documents are needed for a DIY move. : )
Thank you,
Robert

Updated Title with Large "Aggressive" Breed.
He's really not, but he's considered an aggressive breed.
Cooper was sent here using DHL because of the crate size. Petmate #700
United won't allow this size in their plane from Panama to Miami.
Sheila do you still have the diagrams that United sent you?
Maybe able to build my own crate while i'm here.

Thank you
I just sent you an email. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
You can buy large airline approved dog kennels at Melo. Go to Melo in Boquete and they can order them from their main store in PC. Go to the website of Goldenfrog in PC he can tell you what paper work you need.
I just took my two dogs that have some pitbull in their mix back to the states on the 5th of this month. I flew them back on United. We already had wooden kennels that we built that we were going to have the dogs fly in with Delta 4 years ago from the States. We took them to Delta Cargo and they approved the kennels. Here I sent photos to United and they said the kennels weren't acceptable. They sent me a diagram for a wooden reinforced kennel and after a few weeks of back and forth we were able to modify them to make them acceptable. I'm not sure where you would purchase them already made. You can hire a pet broker to do the paperwork for you, but they are pricey. They quoted me a fee of 1400 just for their fees. The first step is to get the dog their rabies shot. It has to be given a minimum of 30 days before you fly and not more than a year old. Then you will have to have the vet fill out 2 health certificates ten days or less before you travel. My vet insisted on 7 days for some reason. One has to be in English and one in Spanish. After this you will have to go to Panama City. Expect to make at least two trips there, maybe more. You will have to take the certificates to the Minesterio De Salud that is by the Oncology Dept. I believe it is building 255 where you will have to start. I didnt write down the names of the offices that I went to, but it was something like Conjeo Trebajo. There they will look at your certificates and have you go and pay a fee, I believe it was 10. After you pay the fee you will have to bring the receipt back to the same place and they will give you back the certificates. Then they sent me to zoology. I'm not sure if this step was necessary as she didn't appear to do anything. I then went to another office. It might have been in building 253. They will add some paperwork to your certificate. They had me wait while they did this and it took about an hour. Then you will need to take the certificates across town to the Tumba Muerto part of town. There is another government building, I forget what it is called where you have to leave your paperwork, I had to come back the next day to pick it up. You will have to pay a fee there at an office in the same building, and pay another fee at the bank. After that the last thing is to get your export permit. I believe the cost was 5 that you had to pay at the bank also. This you have to get at the MIDA office. There is one in the Tumba Muerto area in Plaza Edison. There they will tell you to fill out the export permit info online. There is a internet cafe a few doors down that you can use, and they also know how to fill out the form online so they can help you. When you are done, it will give you a number that you take back to the MIDA office. You will also have to have the dog's original shot record with you. It took about 5 minutes and they had the permit for me. When you show up at United with the dog, make sure to have the paperwork, and the original shot record with you. Hope this helps some.
Dra. Chely can get you all the paperwork you will need to take your dog out of the country. Go and talk to her. Also Dr. Sam in David can do this. You don't have to do all that in Panama City.
That would be great if those vets will do all of that for you. I used a vet at a MELO and they said I had to do it or you can have a pet broker do it for you.
Also I never got my original shot record back when we reached our destination. So if it is something you want to have a record of take a photocopy for yourself.
