Yet again, the shelves were bare at Romero's. It seems to be so common now that I have stopped relying on it nearly as much. Meat dept. all but closed, no eggs, bread off the shelves etc. It's so common I wonder what their plans are for when Super Baru opens up.
I can't imagine that there won't be rush to SB when it opens. I sure as hell will be giving them a try if I am still around or come back.
Now if only somebody would open up a chicken and beef store like that Carniceria that does the pork, that would be awesome!

I thought Martinelli owned Super 99, not Romero or El Rey.
Yes..............after 65 yrs I finally made a mistake!!! I should have hired a manager long ago!!!
Romero was or is in the process of changing suppliers is what I was told in Bugaba I didn't hear about new software but it makes sense, there was extended periods of bare shelves there before Christmas which seemed to get better right around Christmas and hasn't been an issue since it most likely is just in process of changing suppliers and or re stocking software.
Just a few months ago they upgraded the software for the ordering system. It was a problem in the beginning. Super Baru and Romeros are great competitors on the market. Expats won't close one store by shopping at the other. Expats might buy 10% at best from all the stores in town. Panamanians use all of the stores. Super Baru has 4 more parking places if I counted them right. This isn't the U.S. and they do business here totally different. Romeros and Supar Baru are huge corporations and if they break even in Boquete they are happy. A lot of expats won't shop in Boquete because of parking and the selection is limited to Expat Standards and drive to David. So, the panamanians will be happy with a Super Baru.
All the Panamanians I have talked to are looking forward to Super Baru. The software certainy explains things.
Thanks for letting me know this isn't the United States though. Here I thought I was in fucking Vermont all this time since I first came here in 1987.
You are correct a lot of expats from vermont and other locations in the USA think they are entitled to their country of origin's standards here and complain a lot. You hardly ever hear a tourist complain-----just the ones that live here complain the most. When are you moving here permenant?
JudHead's sarcastic humor apparently went right over your head.
There are other stores to buy eggs such as:
Supermercado BRUÑA
Supermercado Alto Boquete
Supermercado Ivan
I wouldn't even trouble with a timeline on Super Baru Lynn. If the target is for JUN, they maybe AUG. I think they will sink Romero's. I wonder if they don't know it and are tightening their budget and preparing for a shutdown. I don't think the community can support 2 super markets.
As a previous poster mentioned, Deli Baru is always professional. If they were a bit bigger, I would not shop elsewhere. They are postage stamp size and run circles around big Romeros.
SB has only limited frozen meat due to their size otherwise I would do all my shopping there. My veggies get at the market. I am afraid to buy poultry in the Chinese places whether that is fair or not.
