we will be looking to rent a house in Panama next month and are currently scouring websites. These websites are taking us through homes in various areas of Panama City, David, Chorrera, Herrara, Chiriquí etc. I don't think I can afford to live in Boquete which is my dream. But is it possible for someone to steer me away from certain areas. I do know to stay away from the Colon district. I am on ecuentra website.
thanks
Bruce

There are affordable rentals throughout Panama, but it's harder to find them in some areas than it is in others. I think you're going about this backwards. You need to decide where you want to live first. The areas you name above are distinctly different from each other in many ways. Do you want hot weather or cool weather, for example? A city or a rural environment? The company of other expats or not? Etc., etc.
Perhaps you should make an exploratory trip first. Decide which area you like best, and then start house hunting. Should that area turn out to be Boquete, you will find that there are surrounding communities that may have less expensive but very nice rentals. And don't forget about Volcan.
Many, many bad experiences result from renting via the Internet. Wherever you decide to settle, you should have your feet on the ground and let the checklist at this site be your guide: https://boquete.ning.com/forum/topics/a-guide-to-asking-rental-quest...
If you say what you are looking for and how much rent you are willing to pay, someone here might respond. Some people have rentals that are not on the site. Also mention how long you want to rent.
The Viviun website is usueful. Search Viviun Boquete rentals,
Look at the rentals here on this website. They are not all expensive.
I have been looking here at boquete.ning with not much luck. I am coming with my wife, my mom and her dog so that makes it more difficult.
