Hormitox works on regular ants, but I've found that only Mirex works on leaf cutters. Follow the trail to the hole in the ground and pour in the Mirex. I spent months using the safe, organic stuff until my entire garden was almost leafless. Only Mirex worked for me. But even Mirex was work; I traced one trail of ants about 75' off my property into an adjoining coffee field. It's available at Melo.
Keep in mind that whatever non-organic toxins you use, it will be in everyone's water supply. Ants aren't the only species that find Hormitox lethal... we humans are vulnerable to that poison, too, as are the neighborhood pets and other wildlife. Not trying to preach, but please exercise caution, for everyone's sake.
There is a pellet product called MIREX available at Melo or Ro-Her (maybe Novey too). Sprinkle on mounds and along trails. It is not organic, but quite effective and rapid.
